動(dòng)詞-ing形式（v-ing）包括傳統(tǒng)語法凱哪的動(dòng)名詞和現(xiàn)在分詞兩個(gè)部分。動(dòng)詞的-ing形式具有動(dòng)詞的特征，同時(shí)又具有名詞、形容詞和副詞的特征，因此它可以在句中作主語、表語、定語、賓語、賓語補(bǔ)足語和狀語。（又稱現(xiàn)在分詞，現(xiàn)在進(jìn)行式，動(dòng)名詞)
以重讀閉音節(jié)結(jié)尾的動(dòng)詞，并且末尾只有一個(gè)輔音字母，應(yīng)雙寫這一字母※注意※，再加ing，如cut→cutting、swim→swimming，以ie結(jié)尾的動(dòng)詞，要改ie為y再加ing，如die→dying，lie→lying.以ic結(jié)尾的動(dòng)詞，要改ic為ick再加ing，如picnic→picnicking，traffic→trafficking。
作定語，單個(gè)分詞作定語時(shí)放在所修飾名詞前。分詞短語作定語時(shí)放在后，并且名詞與現(xiàn)在分詞之間存有邏輯上的主謂關(guān)系。這是區(qū)分現(xiàn)在分詞作定語和動(dòng)名詞作定語的判斷方法之一。
